Welcome!

Established in 2012, Christmas at the Cathedral is a seasonal concert featuring a range of celebrity performers and special guests, raising money for local charities.

Held place in the magnificent setting of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Christmas at the Cathedral has become one of the most talked-about events on Tyneside's Christmas calendar.
"This is the second year that the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has been fortunate to benefit from this marvellous event. It’s a wonderful way to begin our festive celebrations and I know my husband would have loved it."

About the producers

Jonathan Wallis

Jonathan Wallis

A Chartered Surveyor by profession, Jonathan has always held an interest in charity fundraising, music, entertainment and event organisation. He was Chairman of the Teenage Cancer Trust North East Fundraising Board for four years up until 2015, during which time the team raised over £200,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust in the north east. As part of Jonathan’s fundraising ideas, in 2011 he created ‘Christmas at the Cathedral’, enlisting the help of Ray Laidlaw. Jonathan runs his own business as a Chartered Surveyor and rural land agent and is based at Barnard Castle. Charity work remains important to him. Jonathan believes that supporting charities helps him recognise how important life is and that helping others makes a real difference.

Ray Laidlaw

I was born in Tynemouth and started playing in groups at 14. I was educated in Newcastle, mostly at the Club a Gogo. A group I had been in since 1966 became very popular in 1970, changed their name to Lindisfarne and had lots of hit records. I was interested in making music films and met TV director Geoff Wonfor. Together we produced and directed Lindisfarne’s early promotional films. I've continued to do the same things ever since, combining performing, TV and video production, event production and the administration of the Sunday for Sammy Trust.
